I myself hate to spend time on my hair. Who has time to spend 30 minutes turning bed hair into a professional hairstyle? For both guys and girls, bed hair and cow licks are never appealing.

Guys, the best way to smooth out those cow licks is to make your hair damp first, then use hair wax. Garnier Fructis hair wax has a strong hold. Then use a bristle brush and brush it out. When buying a brush, make sure it has a big square head because those are for men. They come in soft brush hairs and stiffer brush hairs. They can be purchased at a barber shop for $5.

Ladies, on the other hand, have more choices of hairstyle, but sometimes it just takes too long. One time on the show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I saw Sarah Michelle Gellar’s hair made into a French twist.

From the looks of it you would think it probably took forever, after seeing these videos, who knew it was so easy and only takes 5 minutes? With the help of Pursebuzz and a few YouTube videos of tutorial hairstyles, you’ll be good to go in 5 minutes. Pursebuzz is a website that has video tutorials on makeup and hairstyling tips for all occasions. These tutorials range from how to put your hair into curls, French twists, French braids, Animation buns, you name it.

The only tools you’ll need are bobby pins, clear rubber band hair ties, a rat tail comb, butterfly clips, and hairspray. A rat tail comb has a thin comb on one end and a long thin stem on the other end. I recommend using Garnier Fructis hairspray; it has a strong hold whether your hair is wet or dry, and can last the whole day. These items can be purchased at any local drugstore, CVS, Duane Reade and such.

Below are a few videos; I’ve tried them all. For the best outcomes, it’s all about knowing your hair, and trial and error, so don’t be upset if it doesn’t come out the same as the video has it; practice makes perfect. I struggled a lot with the French Twist, it just wouldn’t stay and it looked like a mess.

I have extremely fine straight hair so it’s hard for me to manage it when it’s dry, and in order for me to do these hairstyles I realized I needed to gel or wet my hair first. I tried it again right after I washed my hair when it was still damp, and it worked. However, for people with thick curly hair you might not need to do all that, do what works best with your hair.

Classy Up-do (my personal favorite): This would probably work better if you have long hair if not after you tie it in a high pony tail and push it forward to fan it out, when clipping it down it could tilt backwards rather than forward. Also when fanning it out if you have medium length hair your hair won’t fan out as much as it should.

French Twist: This one definitely takes a few tries to get it right. The hardest part is just to get it pinned up, afterwards just make sure the twist is in a straight line and not crooked. If you end up with loose hairs, just use bobby pins to pin them back in place. This hairstyle would work well whether you have medium or long hair.

Messy Up-do: This hairstyle would also work better if you have long hair. When you clip your hair, make sure the clip is big enough to hold all your hair, but small enough to be hidden under your hair. I have thick hair so I have the most trouble with clipping my hair against my head.

Fancy Side Pony Tail: When you make the bump in your hair, make sure the bobby pins you use are the right size depending on how thick your hair is. When I do it I have hard time keeping the pins in place because of my thick hair.

Animation Hair Buns: This hairstyle is very different and cute. You would fit right in at an animation convention. When cutting the socks, just make sure they holes are not too small, just big enough to hold your hair.

Wrapping a Pony Tail: When wrapping the hair tie, make sure you take a long thinner strand because thicker strands are harder to pin down. If you have medium length hair, it’s better to not curl it because when you tie it into a side pony tale it ends up looking more like a big mess.
