Sometimes the thought doesn’t really count for much. Like when you’ve entirely spaced out Valentine’s Day (it’s still February 14th, by the way) or your anniversary (you’re on your own with that one), and you desperately need to make your loved one laugh about the situation or risk a very lonely year. You need something quick yet effective. Solution: the e-card.
In my opinion, e-cards get a bad rap. Sure, they obviously don’t mean as much as a hand-written letter or, at the very least, a card you actually paid for, but a properly selected online message can still lift anyone’s spirits. Here are three sites where you can find cards that will hopefully elicit more than just an eye roll.
Did your best friend finally get that “STEVE ROCKS!!” tattoo removed from her lower back? Did your brother finally pay off his oppressive student loans? Do you want to celebrate the occasion, but just can’t find the words? Let Hipstercards.com take care of you. This clever site offers cards for virtually any occasion.
Recommended card: If cheesy birth announcements are giving you the blues, try this humorous route for letting everyone know you’re knocked-up.
If you love those vintage-looking bumper stickers from Facebook (you know, the ones with snarky witticisms such as “Poor syntax turns me off.” and “I’m somewhat skeptical you’re laughing out loud as much as you claim.”), get ready to have your world rocked. With categories like “Courtesy Hello,” “Breakup,” and “Somewhat Topical” Someecards.com is the perfect stop for when you need to lighten tension or cheer someone up.
Recommended card: Bypass flirting games with this upfront yet unassuming message.
Sometimes just saying “congratulations” or “happy birthday” isn’t enough. Fortunately, thanks to Jib Jab’s video e-cards, you can leave the talking to some of America’s finest former presidents or a pair of sock puppets. For many Jib Jab cards, you can even upload photos of you and your friend’s faces onto various bodies for a truly personalized touch.
Recommended card: For a historically charged “way to go,” try this card. Or send celebrate a friend’s birthday in style with this clever card.
In general, e-cards are better shared between friends. But if you plan to send one to your valentine, it had better be pretty darn funny. Don’t worry; you’ll laugh about it later.

Nice touch having examples attached. Too bad my employer won’t let me access some of them. Another funny and fun to read article by Ms. Blanchard.
