While record numbers of people are losing their jobs all over the country, others are prepared to give up their jobs for “change.” The nation is so inspired by our new president that people are willing to quit their jobs for him or, more precisely, his children. All over the country, people are vying for the coveted position of babysitting first children Malia and Sasha Obama.
These two young girls are quickly becoming celebrities in their own right. They are followed almost as closely as their high profile parents. It may help that they are two adorable girls (even former President Bush called them “beautiful” in his farewell address); their perfectly coiffed hair and young fun clothing make them look more like dolls than young ladies. With their fresh and youthful look, the first children are quickly becoming trendsetters in the fashion world. It comes as no surprise that people everywhere are trying to get as close to them as they can.
In order to get “in” with the little ladies along with the rest of the first family, celebrities and babysitters from every corner of the nation are publicizing what they have to offer as a potential “first babysitter.”
Actress Anne Hathaway is among the many who are ready to make the move to the White House. Nominated for an Oscar for her role in Rachel Getting Married, the actress told Nydailynews.com. “I would love to be First Babysitter, absolutely.”
Teri Hatcher, star of the TV drama “Desperate Housewives” has the same idea as Hathaway. In a statement to OK! Magazine, Hatcher admitted,“They’d come my way and I’d be the babysitter, which would be just fine.”
While it is not clear whether the celebrities are playing into the hype of the Obama family or if they are serious about the child care position, committed people all over the country are polishing their resumes to hopefully snag the top spot.
Thousands of people registered on the babysitting website Sittercity.com are competing for the ultimate babysitting gig. In a statement to the press, Sittercity.com reported: “A recent survey of Sittercity’s members showed that an overwhelming 93 percent would jump at the chance to babysit for the President’s young daughters.”
These sitters are advertising their strengths as well as what they could possibly add to the girls’ lives while they are in the White House. Sittercity.com continued to report: “Sittercity sitters are eager to keep Malia and Sasha entertained by teaching them new things like gymnastics, Spanish and Romanian, quilting, sign language, photography (seems Sasha already has an interest in it) and the tango. People are putting their best foot forward to maybe put one foot inside the White House.”
While it may be hard for some to stop talking about the first children, others are wondering whether the attention and focus on the girls is too much. Malia is just 10 years old and Sasha is only 7 so there is plenty of time for them to be in the spotlight. Whether the new first family likes it or not, these girls have entered the public eye and, for at least the next 4 years, they may not be able to escape it.
For now, it seems that it will be the White House staff and Michelle Obama’s mother, Marian Robinson that will be taking on the babysitting role, but the Obamas can rest assured that if all else fails, they will have plenty of options.
