Happy Valentine’s Day! Will you be our Valentine? No? Well, next week Courtney will explain how you can be quirkyalone, which is like being single but better. In the meantime, check out Angie’s article about Single’s Awareness Day, which requires neither candy hearts nor doting cupids.
Or, you could write the word “love” on your arms. TStS writer Lauren explains the To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) movement and the ways that it has helped to save many lives. Writes Lauren, “One hundred and twenty-one million people across the world suffer from depression, and TWLOHA seeks to unite them with faith and love. Two out of three of them will never seek treatment, but TWLOHA wants to give them a voice and a chance.”
In other parts of the country, people are celebrating the cold. On South Michigan Ave., in Chicago, IL, ice sculptors are trying to craft their best and most creative ice sculptures. Pictured above is a horse with a wavy man; other favorites included a scene from Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are and a musical tribute piece complete with a frozen guitar. This week, new writer Melody is going to tell us about ice festivals in other parts of the country.
If you can’t stand the cold, don’t worry! Spring break is only a few weeks away. Do you know where you’re going to spend your Spring break? Are you seeking alternatives that don’t involve keg stands and Girls Gone Wild? Read Ken’s article about alternative Spring break options and spend your free time doing something fulfilling and fun. Otherwise, I’ll see you in Cancun…just kidding!
