“Pearls of the Air” by Ana Richters
The rainbow pearls of the sea
Are not the gems that call to me,
But rather the pearls of the air
Are the jewels I think more fair.
They fall from Heaven onto my face,
And decorate my hair like spider lace.
The pearls adorn my brows and eyelashes,
Others paint trails down my galoshes,
Still more caress my cheeks and nose,
While staining them a flattering rose.
They twist and shape my flowing curls,
These talented, crafty, gorgeous pearls.
I float by women, weighed down by strands of the sea,
And think how unlucky they are compared to me,
Who has been draped from toes to hair
With the delicate, sparkling pearls of the air.
