One unplanned theme this week has been conservation. In “Cuddle, Kiss, and Conserve Your Cash,” Lauren gave tips for couples trying to save money in this down economy. We learned that you can have lots of fun with your significant other without spending a lot of dough.
Lauren writes: “Stephanie Morano, a 24-year-old grade school teacher living in East Harlem, NY, planned a simple and tasteful wedding with her groom Jonathon Hanna in New York City’s Central Park. The two were married by Turtle Pond on Saturday, October 11, 2008. ‘We didn’t want to spend all the savings we had in one day and be broke,’ Morano said about planning the cheaper nuptials. The couple was able to get a deal on just about everything by using their own creativity.”
Saving money doesn’t mean you can’t fantasize about expensive things. Erin compiled a list of interesting items that you will probably never be able to buy. Do you ever want to ride a toy triceratops after a long day at work? Now, you can buy one!
Money is a hot topic right now, but you can conserve energy too! On March 28th, several cities dimmed their lights in celebration of Earth Hour, an effort to reduce the expenditure of energy. Ana writes: “While there is no doubt that blackening such major cities as Washington DC, Sydney, and Beijing will conserve energy, the WWF admits that there is no uniform way to measure just how much energy was saved over the span of the night.
While this fact may be frustrating to some, the knowledge that Earth Hour does indeed preserve energy was enough to inspire almost a billion participants to flip the switch Saturday, March 28, to vote Earth.”
Happy conserving!
