The time is now to begin making your summer plans. Will you travel? Are you going to take classes? Will you be working? Niko has some great advice about how to see the world during your summer break, if you are still a student and actually have the luxury of a summer break.
“Traveling is extremely popular for college students, and people of all ages. It is also a great and memorable way to spend the summer. For ambitious students, go abroad for the whole summer. Travel to a country that you have always wanted to visit, and immerse yourself in the culture for a couple of months.”
If you could go anywhere in the world this summer, where would you choose?
Mermaid had a chance to see a great performance at The Movement Theatre Company in New York City. The GO GREEN event GO GREEN was a night of 10 short plays about the environment and the many interpretations of the phrase “going green.”
Mermaid writes: “Overall, it was a very interesting theme out of which to make a show. Kudos to these artists, directors, and playwrights who have worked hard to create a wonderful venue in which to showcase their work. The Movement is a company dedicated to fostering the work of emerging artists of color. I can only hope that their cause continues to spread and incorporate all of us emerging artists coming together!”
Has a teacher ever encouraged you to free-write? In his piece “Little Peter Learns to Write“, Peter describes the joys and frustrations of free writing: “Once, I wrote about my undying devotion to Hostess cupcakes and belittled the faithless curmudgeon lunch ladies for their fascist command over the cafeteria. How dare they tell me that I must finish my peanut butter and jelly sandwich AND my Ziploc bag of Jays potato chips before devouring my savory, scrumptious dessert.”
