Sure, it’s easy and fun to send a text message. But how easy is it to send a text message and do another activity? The girl in this photo can send text messages and ride her book at the same time. Aren’t you impressed?

Mermaid is not impressed.  In this week’s column, Mermaid expressed her dislike for text-messaging, especially when the messages are coming from someone that she’s just trying to get to know. She interviewed a few men to find out what guys think about text-messaging, and she received a lot of interesting insights.

Mermaid writes, “Speaking is what makes us often feel the closest to someone, but with the advent of the textual option, we opt more and more to avoid a real-time connection or a real-time rejection. Perhaps texting is a crutch for those who are already shy or ambivalent.”

What do you think about texting? Do you have rules about sending and receiving messages?

Maybe you’re someone who is using mobile technology to become famous. Ana wrote an article about three individuals/groups that are trying to make it big with the Internet. “This knowledge has prompted a new wave in fame-seekers who have developed sites based on everything from gossip to home videos in the hopes that someone, somewhere will discover the site, pass it on to friends, and so establish a fanbase.” Do you think this is a passing fad or a here-to-stay reality?

Happy texting! Just don’t text me; I already exceeded my messages for the month.
