New writer Andrew’s review of Colson Whitehead’s Sag Harbor received the a record number of comments! We are excited that his work is attracting so much attention. Of Whitehead’s book, Andrew wrote:
“But the summers for Benji are different. They’re spent in the Hamptons village of Sag Harbor, where a small community of black professionals create a life outside of their New York City existences. He hopes that the summer will afford an opportunity for reinvention, to sort and straighten out the miscellany of confusions and misunderstandings that have taken hold of his pubescent Manhattan life.”
Ana wrote her second installment of her intern column; this week she discussed office hierarchy and the roles that interns play in an office filled with full-time hires.
“Having an internship in an area that you do not intend to pursue is by no means a waste of time. Every experience ads to a resume, and can show a very balanced profile to a potential employer.
In the long run, doing menial work can prove fruitful. The big issue is getting through such banal assignments in the present. Though I do encounter an off-day every now and then where I dread the prospect of sitting at a desk all day doing nothing clacking away at a keyboard, I have had the great fortune to find enjoyment in most of the chores handed to me.”
Where are you working this summer?
